Date:  Tuesday, June 27, 2023


Attending:  Frances Brooks:  President, Elaine Rivera: 1st Vice President, Melissa Burdash: 2nd Vice President, Jacqueline Burke: Trustee. Julie Dempsey: Library Director


Absent:  Eric Norberg:  Finance Officer, Laura Finch: Secretary, Patrick Mason: Trustee


The meeting was called to order at 5:32 p.m.


The members recited the Pledge of Allegiance.


Staff Recognition:
Julie recognized Lisa Gill for her 15 years as a dedicated employee of the library and presented her with a certificate and a bouquet of flowers.


Julie recognized Arlene McMahon for her 40 years as a dedicated employee of the library and presented her with a certificate, gift card, and a bouquet of flowers.


Fran recognized Julie for her 30 years as Director and her dedication to the library and presented her with a certificate and a bouquet of flowers.


Jacquie moved to accept the minutes of the May 25, 2023, meeting.  Melissa seconded.  All were in favor.


Financial Report:
Melissa moved as follows:  Be it resolved to approve the warrants attached for operating expenses for the month of June 2023.  Jacquie seconded.  All were in favor.


Jacquie moved as follows:  Be it resolved to accept the May 2023 financial reports as prepared by Rose Woodworth, accountant.  Melissa seconded.  All were in favor.

Director’s Report:


Assemblyman Jacobson pop up:  Assemblyman Jacobson’s pop-up office will be Thursday June 29th from 4-6 p.m.


SRP: the program is going well.  The participants receive stickers and or a tattoo as they finish a book.  A grand prize for each age group will be given at the end of the program.


Friends:  Julie stressed the important role of the Friends and the importance of the Trustees being members.


Old Business:
Jacquie moved as follows:  that the Board of Trustees of the Highland Public Library approve the personnel actions as listed.  Melissa seconded.  Results of Action:  Fran: yes, Elaine: yes, Melissa: yes, Jacquie: yes.

New Business:
Julie has distributed a Patron Complaint Policy for review and comment.  Jacquie stated it should be a tiered approach with notification going to the Trustees as soon as the Director receives a complaint regardless of if it is resolved at the Director’s level.

Friends Liaison:
 Leslie reported the Friends met on Saturday and presented a Board to the Trustees: Leslie: President, Heidi Souleotis: Treasurer, Lisa Green:  Corresponding Secretary.  The Trustees approved the Officers.
They are currently doing a fundraiser, a spa basket and a night at the movie’s basket, winners will be drawn July 1. 
They are holding a membership drive in July.

 Jacquie moved to adjourn; Melissa seconded.  The meeting was adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
