How do I get a library card?

Come to the library with your updated license, apartment lease, or piece of mail that has your name with a Highland, NY address. You can apply for a card at the check out desk. You can also apply online.

Is there an age requirement for getting a library card?

No! Children and teens can get a library card. The only requirements are children must be able to write their first and last name and those under 14 years of age, require a parent or guardian signature with a current Highland, NY address. 

Why does my library card expire?

Library cards expire every 3 years to make sure patrons update their contact information. If you card does expire just come into the library to update your information and have your card renewed. 

How do I renew my library items?

Renew items online by clicking “My Account” in the top right side of the Highland Public Library website. Login with your library barcode and PIN. You can also call the library at 845-691-2275 ext. 10 or stop by the library to renew your items.

How many items can I check out?

Signing up for a library card for the first time: 5 items for 3 months, after that it is limitless.

How do I access ebooks on Overdrive?

From the main page click “Download: Audiobooks & More” in the bottom right of the corner, or click on “Resources” at the top of the page and then “Ebooks & More.”

How do I register for an online account?

On the library home page click on “My Account” in the page’s top right corner. Enter your library card’s barcode and then create a PIN in the form. Remember to write down your PIN someplace to safe to help you remember. 

Can I replace my PIN if I forgot it?

Yes! From the library home page click on “My Account” in the page’s top right corner. Click on “Forgot Your PIN” then fill out your barcode and follow the sets to create a new PIN.

Lost an item?

Contact your local branch to discuss replacement cost as it varies per library and per item. 

Can I copy or send a fax?

Yes! Copies are .20 cents for black and white, .50 cents for color. Faxes are $1.00 for the first page and .50 cents for every additional page afterward. 

Can I get books from other libraries?

Yes! Highland Public Library belongs to the Mid-Hudson Library System and we can get items from any of our partnering libraries. Click here to see the full list of our partnering libraries.
