News You've Been Eager to Hear!

The work is winding down on the new library.  Within the next few weeks the flooring will be installed, painting finished, and furniture delivered.  We will start packing up and cleaning out the current building the week of Dec 4.  You might notice a dumpster on our lawn.  The library hours for Dec 4-9 will be  10am-12pm and 4pm-6pm for hold pickups. Between 12pm and 4pm staff will be cleaning and packing our offices and other areas. The library will close completely from Dec 11, 2017 through Jan 15, 2018 reopening in our brand new building on Jan 16, 2018 for regular library  hours. It may seem as if we are closing for a long time but the building is not only new to the community, it is new to our staff. Part of our closure will be used to train staff on the new space and new technology.

To make the closing less of an inconvenience, we will have longer hours at our Clintondale Branch.  The hours in Clintondale from Dec 13, 2017-Jan 12, 2018 will be Tues 10am-5pm, Wed and Thurs 10am-7pm.  Clintondale hours on Dec 12  will be 10am-12pm and 3pm-5pm. Once we close:  if you wish to obtain an item during this time, please have it sent to another library that is convenient to you, such as the Clintondale Branch, or other local library for pickup.  When you place a hold online, please choose a library other than Highland for pick up location until we reopen.

A Grand Opening and ribbon cutting ceremony is being planned for Jan 28, 2018  from 3-6 pm.  All community members are welcome to attend as well as our special guests.  A special preview is being given to senior citizens on Dec 19 , 2017 at 11am.

We are so grateful for all the offers of volunteer help during the move.   We will use library staff and a professional moving company to do the move, and do not anticipate needing community volunteers. However, we do need your help in other ways:

  • You can help us spread the word! Tell your neighbors, friends, and family that we’re closed, and check our website and FB for updates.

  • You can be patient during this time of delay and transition. While we are working on a move that is efficient, timely, and smooth, we know that there will be unforeseen issues and problems that occur.  Please bear with us and know that we are working to get your library up and running as soon as possible.

  • We may need help with other projects through the Friends of the Library, so stayed tuned!

Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm!
